Doorstep trading in Birmingham
“Rogue traders” can target vulnerable people and pressure them into buying goods or services they don’t want or need, which are often of poor quality and at high prices.
Don’t feel pressured into buying goods or services on the doorstep.
Birmingham City Council (BCC) say:
“We advise you to never deal with people who knock on your door or call you on your telephone offering goods and services.”
Display a poster
If you want to ask traders not to approach you, ActionFraud have a poster to print off and display by your front door.
Reputable traders should respect this request. If they don’t, ask yourself whether they can be trusted.
Birmingham No Cold Calling Zones
Trading Standards has established three No Cold Calling Zones in Birmingham. They are intended to reduce doorstep (rogue) traders and distraction burglary. Traders are requested not to cold-call houses in these areas.
The zones are in the areas of Sheldon/Garretts Green, Sparkhill, and Yardley.
Maps are here under “No Cold Calling Zones”
Again, if you live in one of these zones and a trader still knocks on your door, think twice about whether you can trust them.
The Doorsteppers campaign targets doorstep sellers who prey on vulnerable consumers.
BCC work with other agencies and provide a rapid response service, which means they can respond immediately in cases where older or more vulnerable people have these tradesmen at the door and are being pressured into having work done.
If you are having problems with rogue property repairers or you have a neighbour or friend who is the target of these "traders":
Contact the BCC rogue trader hotline: 0121 303 9367
